Efrain Osorio is a contemporary realist Colombian American artist who was born in Manizales, Colombia. His approach is characterized by in-depth personal exploration, combining realism with elements of symbolism and abstraction. In his work, Osorio derives inspiration from the charcoal drawing technique of the Padres Vicentinos Españoles he learned as a young boy by quietly observing his father draw. His work references the vibrant black-and-white intensity of those early creations and serves as a significant source of inspiration for his current work. Although richly diverse in subject matter, the majority of his work maintains the purity of those two-toned beginnings. Intense black and gray shadows, contrasting shapes, and bold compositions characterize his art. Recently, his work has evolved to include a more colorful and dramatic palette.
— His work is in private residences including several commissions by Academy Award-nominated actor, Burt Reynolds. In Colombia, he briefly audited architecture classes at the Universidad Nacional Facultad de Arquitectura before studying painting at the studio of master painter Oscar Naranjo. A year later he continued his Fine Arts studies at Bellas Artes de la Universidad de Caldas for three more years before moving to Florida to earn a Commercial Arts degree from The Fort Lauderdale Art Institute. Equally at home at a workstation, drafting table or easel, he is also co-founder of Designapolis, a successful branding consulting firm in Miami since 1996. When not in his studio painting, you can find him on the soccer field enjoying his other passion. In addition, he enjoys travel and spending time with family.
